Google Translate has been out for quite a long time. I just gave it a try to see how it works.

If you have not yet heard about it then it can be found at http://translate.google.com/

Google Translate service can used be to translate text or a web page or entire document.  Currently it supports 51 languages.

It is free service from Google Inc as of now but not sure how long it will be free. Also not sure if Google makes any money with Google Translate Service.

But let's not get in all these things if check how it performs?

Hindi (A Indian Language) is my first language and English is my second language so I tried to translate from English to Hindi. Here are results of very simple English sentences which I used for my test..

Result: This translation is wrong.

Result: This is perfectly correct. Cheers..

Result: This translation is wrong.

Result: This translation was also wrong.

Result: This was only partially correct.

Result: Great, This is correct.

Result: This was incorrect.

Result: This is partially correct.

Result: This is partially correct.

Now this shocker. Checkout this  translation.

Result: This is amazing result. It worked and brought smile on my face except that Google word has no translation in Hindi so it kept it unchanged.

After some trials,  I have a mixed feeling now.  If someone ask me to rate it then I will rate it 5 out of 10.  This doesn't give perfect translation but it still can be used to get some idea or to learn about other foreign languages. It is advisable not to use it for professional work.

I hope Google will improve this amazing service and will keep it for free.
